After the horrific experience of getting SPAMMED by porn bots, Blogware have made some changes to comments - beautiful! To make a comment now, you have to type in the text that appears on top of the comment box - very cool.

The Darkside of WOW ....

I have been meaning to post on WOW but I have been too busy enjoying the game. About a couple of weeks ago, I earned my first honour point in the game. WOW is basically divided into two groups - The Horde (Orcs, Tauren, Trolls and Undead) and The Alliance (Humans, Dwarfs, Elfs and Gnomes). As part of the game, you can go on a raid on towns on the other side/group. Once you attack the town of another group (such as Humans versus Orcs), you are now open to attack by the locals).

My buddy and I were doing a number of Quest as an Orc (Horde group) when we noted that our Quest giver was killed by some Dwarfs (Alliance group). When our Quest giver, a computer character, was killed by these Dwarfs, my friend was very upset because we now have to wait for our Quest giver to respawn, which could take a while - so, we are now wasting time because of these Alliance folks. We did see a Dwarf and my buddy wanted to kill him because of what was done. A quick scan by me noted there were a few of these Alliance characters in the background, which meant that there is support.

We backed off and continued our quest tasks. A half hour later, deep into the quests, we saw this dwarf again. Apparently, he has been following us. But this time, his friends were no where to be seen and there were now 3 of us instead of 2. We can smell FEAR and a sure kill was only seconds away. You can see the Dwarf trying to find a way out of his predicament.

The 3 of us circled him and closed in. When he tried to run, we chased him down and was put out to pasture in 10 seconds. I could feel the adrenaline flowing as we closed in on him and the sense that this is a sure kill. It was not going to be a fair fight. What gave it an extra edge was that we knew there was a real person behind that Dwarf who did not want to die. He did not have a chance and the attack was fast and brutal. Once we disposed of him, we got an honour point for defending our Land.

All in all it was a harmless experience except for the fact that the act was ruthless and we extracted great pleasure from it. This is very disturbing for me - a self professed pacifist.

Woohoo!!! August 2005 was a record month, which exceeded May 2005 in terms of bandwidth consumption. 2.1 GB of transmission, 6,772 distinct host served and 18,269 page viewed in August 2005 compared to 2 GB of transmission, 6,318 distinct host served and 7,337 page viewed for May 2005. The most popular category was the Fish and the Stock Market (Main page was not included, which would have been the highest category). Its all good

Never say "Never?"

I go through my life in serach of little factoid (a piece of information that is right and a constant) to live by. One of them is "Never say Never." Obviously there is something wrong with that factoid.

As I walked to work this morning, I saw the front page of today's paper. It was Gretzky. The head lines quoting Gretzky saying he would never coach hockey. Ahh... there is the word "Never" used and proves the user wrong again

"Never' is too strong a word and there is some cosmic joke floating around that waits to prove all those who use "Never" wrong. "Never" should be used only in the past context to avoid the cosmic joke.

I once was with a friend who is a MBA/LLB (she did the combined program and not individually, which means she is one smart cookie - hard working too!). One Friday evening, she said to me "Two things I would never do. Get inveolved with a married man. Live with someone before I get married." I smiled and gave her my lecture on using the word "Never." Remember our conversation tonight I said to her because I am going to come back on that. Fast forward 7 to 10 years. Guess what? She is so wrong.

When I tried to pass the factoid to my son, I thought carefully what to say. Never say "Never" is wrong. So, I went on to say try not to use the word "Never" because it is seldom true. After a few minutes, he started to laugh. I asked him what was funny. Never say "Never."

Traffic report for July 2005

The summer months are flying by! And, its that time of the month - traffic report. Transmission was 1.8 GB and number of vistors was 7,130 unique addresses. Total paged viewed was 7,748. The most popular categories were 745 hits for Stock Market Rant (they are back? No. Its more reading of the past post by real players now - welcome), 637 hits on the Fish section (note to write more in there and there are stuff to write about as the tank is going nuts with brakish water for fresh wate fishes), Photo was 468 hits and Travel Logs was 220 hits.

I am now really at a Crossroad. I found out last week that someone stole my worldwatcher.com site! But, I found my name available and I have it registered. The decision is to move everything to my new domain or continue with this site or maintain both, which is really not a solution.

As one who is deep in the Internet space, I am a PARANOID user. I am in constant fear of deviants and what they might do with information at their finger tips. For a spine chilling experience see post on gaming titled "A Chilling Experience."

What I do not understand are the bloggers who have everything on the Net (their home, phone numbers, IM numbers etc...). Are they not worried? Or is the world so big that the information would be lost in the noise? Me think not. And with this view, shaping my real personal website is going to be a challenge. I can't just say whatever I want

A while back, a Netherland website was sourcing a lot of my Toronto City pictures. My bandwidth was getting sucked up everytime a visitor arrives on the Netherland website. Essentially, the Netherland website had a linked to my pictures here. By doing that, they pass the bandwidth usage to me - nice. Ross, when made aware of this, came up with a niffty solution - block the IP address that is sourcing my pictures. Well, it is happening again. A couple of new sources have tagged my pictures and bandwidth is getting sucked up again! But, this time with Ross handy dandy click of a button it will come to an end - me hope.

DigitalDomain is one year old today. It all began as a test of blogware. The experience has been wonderful and I have accomplished everything I have set out to do, which is generate traffic

I get very retrospective on my own birthday, which is typically a depressing time for me. I am first of all tired of blogging. Three things can happen when you blog. The first is that no one cares and there is no traffic in which case it dies shortly unless you are mentally disturbed and blogging is a way to channel the problem aways. The second thing is that the blog generates traffic and the blogger gets on a treadmill until sheer exhaustion stops the blogger. The third thing is the blogger is successful and powered by nuclear fusion continues to blog to the end of time, which is the blogger's death. What do I do now?

I have met many people from my blogging activities. Surprisingly, they are very similar in mind to me. Many people have found the support they need from the Internet. People have found their soulmates. And the whole blogging phenomenon and the so called blogsphere is leading to something wonderful (thinking in the context of Space Odyssey 2001). Can the blogsphere change our views on life and our social consciousness? Yes, it can.

In addition to blogging, I have also spent way too much time on the different blogging communities and their bloggers. There are some brillant writers and minds out there. The power of all these bright minds can now be heard and that is bound to have an impact - laws of physics "Every force has an equal an opposite reaction." With all the wealth of information at your finger tips, I can only hope something wonderful is going to happen

What do I do now? I am tired of the blogging treadmill. I will keep up the Family portion of the blog going but the Stock Market Ramblings posting are going to get more infrequent. This maybe a reflection of the market doldrums. Who knows? I like to spend more time but that is like squeezing water from a rock - or is it blood from a rock?

I am now fully convinced (not that I was not before) that the Internet and what it does for us is going to take us to a whole new level of evolution. The Internet is the most fertile ground for nuturing and growing the mind.

For now, today is DigitalDomain Birthday! Happy One Year old! It has been sweet ....
